Several months ago, Century Furniture parent RHF Investments said it has agreed to purchase upper-end upholstery resource Hancock & Moore and a lot of the company’s properties, including seating manufacturer Jessica Charles and the 200 Steele showroom building in High Point.

And the company has planned to buy these and other assets, including Councill and Thomas & Gray, from Jack Glasheen, Jimmy Moore and Tim Rogers, who would remain with Hancock & Moore in various executive roles.

Councill, which formerly known as Councill Craftsman, has been in operation since the late ’70s. It was purchased by Hancock & Moore out of bankruptcy in December 2003.

And Century President Alex Shuford III said the deal included all the assets of Hancock & Moore, Jessica Charles and 200 Steele. The Thomas & Gray product line was likely continue, however in a smaller footprint, Shuford said. When the company will retain the Councill name, it wasn’t clear what direction the product line will take.

Also, the purchase included contract division Cabot Wrenn.

Hancock & Moore and Jessica Charles CEO Jack Glasheen, President Tim Rogers and Jimmy Moore, vice president of manufacturing, continued with the company in their respective roles, Shuford said.

Hancock & Moore’s manufacturing operations in Alexander County, N.C., and the Jessica Charles facility in High Point were expected to continue operations, providing product that complements the offerings in Century’s high end upholstered line as well.

“Hancock & Moore is the finest leather upholstery manufacturer in the country and I’ve spent my career appreciating the quality and integrity they build into their products,” Shuford said. “The team that Jack Glasheen, Jimmy Moore and Tim Rogers have created at Hancock & Moore and at Jessica Charles is incredibly strong. I can speak for my family and the Century team in saying that we see this as gaining new members to our family.”

“The combination of Hancock & Moore with Century Furniture has just felt right from day one,” said Glasheen. “The two companies think alike and both pride themselves on strong foundations of quality craftspeople.”
